The end of an era. The legends of heavy metal, Black Sabbath, have taken their final bow — and they did it with style, heart, and a legacy-defining impact. Held in Birmingham, the band’s hometown, the farewell concert featured not just iconic performances, but also a charitable dimension of epic proportions: more than $190 million were raised for nonprofit causes, making it one of the most generous rock events in music history.

“Ozzy leaves the stage, but never our hearts”

With Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) curating the musical direction, the night brought together a who’s who of the rock world. In a review, Martin Iordanidis wrote:

“John Michael Osbourne leaves, but Ozzy Osbourne stays forever.”

Fans around the world tuned in with emotion — and in massive numbers.

Streaming and ticket proceeds donated in full

According to The Guardian, the global livestream attracted over 5 million viewers, each purchasing access for around $30 USD. This alone brought in $150 million, all of which was donated thanks to the participating bands waiving their fees.

Who received the donations?

The event's full proceeds were distributed equally to three organizations:

  • Cure Parkinson’s – supporting research and therapies

  • Birmingham Children’s Hospital – helping young patients locally

  • Acorn’s Children’s Hospice – providing palliative care and support to families

Legacy beyond music

More than just a goodbye, this concert marked a transformation of heavy metal into heavy impact. With a philanthropic statement louder than any amp, Black Sabbath closed their journey with a message of hope.

For fans, the music may fade from the stage — but the generosity echoes on.
